Anyone got a brolly?
Where’s the summer gone? One minute we were topping up our tans (ed: fake rather than bake though, naturally...) and the next we’re doing our best web-footed impression in weather which even the ducks might sneeze at! We’ve taken down our tent before it floats away and are content to ‘barbie' our shrimps on the gas hob instead - but we’re not letting anything dampen our spirits as we’ve battled through the elements to get you FOUR brand spanking new albums for this summer - so look no further as we lift your spirits higher than the line of Brüno’s hot pants...

So first up we’re looking at Ded Good’s ying & yang. We’re exploring both sides of our musical nature with a Two-Faced inspired double whammy of albums. Our mysterious, deep and dynamic-sounding DED 113 - Percussionism is sure to please with it’s live and loud sound. A collection of traditional percussion and contemporary grooves by Ded Good first-timer Marc Layton Bennett, best known for his work on Talvin Singh’s Seven Steps, it’s all tension and wonderful cinematic gloss. Try Battlefront or Head Chase for a slice of the action.

But if Percussionism is the dramatic ear-candy sister, DED 114 - Chilled Ethnic Flavas must be it’s cool big brother. A melting pot of ethnic instruments and atmosphere’s, Chilled Ethnic Flavas has a truly global sound which is instantly useable and feel-good. With a mix of tracks from new Ded Good fave Rob Parrett and some from our own Scargill/ Oldroyd it’s as enjoyable a bag of ethnic fusion as we’ve ever heard. Get stuck in to this musical buffet from around the world with Freedomland and Shadow of the Sun....

SO Radical
DED116

Next we’re taking you back to May 2005, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and CDGML 8500 - Sonic Bling was released. Then we couldn’t have predicted it’s popularity, or that you would demand we make another as soon as the rims stopped spinning on our Hummer. As ever your wish is our command so here’s DED 115 - Sonic Bling 2! This time we’ve taken the slick production and authenticity of the original to another level with a fun and feel-good 2009 approach to hip-hop and r’n’b. Tracks like She Burn or You Are The One are off the hook (ed: ‘fo shizzle...)

To round off our mammoth musical journey for this month we have last, but very definitely not least, the mighty DED 116 - SO Radical. Tagged as “an awesome mix of energised electronica and edgy uplifting synthcore” - we won’t try to say that ten times in a row- but we will say it’s a fine slice of electro and we likey! Scargill/Oldroyd have done it again - a definite progression from DED 110 - XL, they’ve got a new story to tell, and this time it’s in high definition. Sample some sweet sampling with Radio and You Electric. Electronic digital fizzage. Done.

Does my bum look big in this

Free stuff alert! OK on to this month’s fabulous competition where you can win a ‘Son of Hibatchi’ Portable BBQ if you just tell us in what year the fabulous Notting Hill Carnival started? Answers sent to festivalfever@dedgood.co.uk are in with a chance. Now we’re off to polish our steel drums for the National Champions of Steel competition, (ed: someone stick Latino Nuevo 2 or Percussionism on, I’m banging the drums man).

And finally... we want to give props to anyone going to the Edinburgh Festival this year. We heard that due to the crunch more people than ever are holidaying in the UK, so if you’re putting on your cultural hat you might see some of us Ded Gooders abseiling to the Pleasance (we love Edinburgh but why does it have to be so steep?) We wondered if these guys will be there, although we don’t fancy their chances in that footwear?!

And the award for most uncomfortable footwear goes to...

We’ll be back again before the weather really hits rock bottom, just in time for the new series of Strictly, where we’ll be campaigning to bring back Arlene, with some grand new music to lift the pre-winter doldrums. Vassup!
